The Adobe Acrobat Reader plugin is currently causing problems for most Mac OS X users who have it installed. In the majority of cases, the plugin shows a blank page when a user clicks on a link to a PDF file. The move to block outdated Flash Player plug-ins comes after Adobe released Flash Player version 14.0.0.145 to push a fix that removes a security vulnerability (CVE-2014-4671), which could be exploited by using a tool called Rosetta Flash. Adobe's Creative Suite 4 is a collection of multimedia editing and creation programs that includes Acrobat, Photoshop, Flash, Dreamweaver and others. If put in capable hands, Creative Suite can give your company's graphic designs, Web presence, and audio-visual productions a professional edge. Out of the box, these programs use the Adobe Update Manager to access the Internet automatically to download updates. Completely disabling access to CS4's service extensions is the most efficient way to prevent all of the suite's programs from linking to the Internet automatically.
1.On Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7, click “Start” and then “Run.” Type “regedit” and press Enter to launch your system's Registry Editor. Alternatively, click 'Start' and type “regedit” in the blank field that says “Search programs and files” to make the program's icon appear. Double-click the icon to launch it.
2.Double-click the folder called “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE” to expand the folder. Double-click the folder named “SOFTWARE” and then select the “Adobe” folder. On some versions of Windows, the “Adobe” folder may be located inside a folder named “Wow6432Node.”
3.![Lines Lines](/uploads/1/2/6/4/126431363/237655924.jpg)
Locate the string value “AdobeOnlineDefault,” which appears inside the “Adobe” folder or, in some versions of Windows, a folder under the “Adobe” folder called “CSXS Preferences.” Double-click “AdobeOnlineDefault” to make an “Edit String” window appear. In the blank field next to or under “Value Data,” set the number to “0” and click “OK.”
Tip
- To selectively block individual CS4 programs from connecting to the Internet, open each program's “Preferences,” click “Plug-ins,” and uncheck the box next to “Allow Extensions to Connect to the Internet.”
